When Alex Plotkin read the Philadelphia Inquirer’s review of his restaurant Chops, he was understandably upset. Restaurant critic Craig LaBan left a terrible review of the steak that he was served. Due to debate over the type of steak, Plotkin decided to air his grievances out in with a very public yet frivolous lawsuit. This reaction probably had as much to do with seeking revenge as it does clearing the restaurant’s name, as in the end it could expose LaBan’s anonymity making it difficult for him to give fair reviews of restaurants in the future. However Plotkin is dealing with a double edged sword. The further he takes this the more he hurts his restaurant Chops as the image of a “miserably tough and fatty" steak is implanted in potential customer brains as synonymous with Chops.
